PayPal- The worst company I have ever dealt with

I have been selling my extensive personal collection of DVDs and Blurays via eBay and was doing quite well with it. 10 days ago, I discovered my Paypal account was limited and they were requesting further information. I thought that was annoying, but fair, as I had been doing ok with my selling and they were just trying to protect themselves.

The next day I discovered that my eBay account was also restricted and there were 10 disputes against me and 26 other payments on hold! Because of the limitation that Paypal had placed, eBay sent out an email to all the people who had bought off me stating that I may be involved in fraudulent/high risk activity! The people putting in disputes were people who had just bought off me who wouldn’t have received their goods yet because they had just been sent (or were about to be).

Paypal on this day would not tell me why this had occured. It wasn’t until the next day that I was advised that my account was limited because I was selling “multiple items of the same thing”, which of course was wrong. After realising their mistake, they lifted the limitation the same day.

HOWEVER, all of my funds were still on hold, and my eBay account had deleted all my listings as well as everything that I had bought or sold.

I have spent hours trying to get my funds back, prove my innocence and trying to recover my reputation and integrity with people who had bought off me. This has just been an absolute nightmare. I had to spend nearly $300 of my own money in postage costs to send goods I had not even been paid for just to prove that I was doing the right thing. All the time Paypal is holding the funds (and earning interest off it no doubt).

Then, the other day I get an email saying that my complaint rate was unacceptable, and it referred me to their policies on their disputes. The rate was so high because of PayPal’s error! The latest development is that I was waiting until they had cleared the final two disputes. My balance was at $780 odd. I get another email from them advising that due to Australian anti-money laundering laws, I now have to prove who I am to them. Enough is enough!

With Paypal you are guilty until proven innocent. With Paypal you will not get an apology if they make a mistake. If they do make a mistake, they will expect you to clean it up. Luckily, I finally found a supervisor who took my case in hand and tried to fix as much as she could. But even she gave up in the end (a note: eBay was great in fully reinstating my account and couldn’t believe what Paypal had done to me. Even the supervisor who helped me said she had never seen this on an account before. However with eBay, I had lost all the bids that people had placed on my DVDs/Blurays and I had to start again).

I come from 8 years in complaint resolution. I have NEVER come across such blatant disregard for the consumer before. Please be very warned. Just horrible. I am a rational, sane, educated man who nearly lost his mind with this company.
