So… I sell on eBay, as I am guessing a lot of you do… and I typically do anywhere from $3,000/day to $26,000/day… Happily withdrawing around once a week to the tune of $30,000+… All was going well for the first 4 months of running the account, with only the occasional limitation because “they think someone else was accessing my account”, which is easy enough to remedy by a changing my passwords and resetting my security questions… and a quick phone call to customer service to confirm my location since my credit card on file is already verified and it won’t let me do that again… And then one day, when my volume starts going down, they limit my account and ask for a whole slew of information including supplier invoices, supplier contact information, etc, etc, etc… all things I had done long ago on this account… Okay, I submit the information… and they unfreeze the account… and I withdraw another $20,000 or so… (oh, by the way, they have a 10% rolling reserve on my account, which is even understandable, a tad)… now it comes time that those rolling reserve amounts are finally coming off and literally thousands of dollars are just magically becoming available to me again on a daily basis… yay… a few days later (no withdraws in between, only payments) they limit my account again… wanting the whole set of information all over again… so I send it again, now they start getting more specific, wanting more invoices from a particular vendor… and … … … what it ended with after I submitted the information? An email stating that they no longer want to do business with me and I am going to have to wait 180 days to withdraw any money, with a little over $18,000 available and $70,000ish in rolling reserves… How is a person supposed to run a business like this? In addition to posting tracking numbers on every single transaction to eBay (yes, we are indeed a high volume seller and do have custom written software so the warehouse can just use a barcode scanner on the barcode for the shipping receipt on each and every order as the paperwork is completed, and also because this is really important for us for tax purposes because we do charge buyers the relevant taxes and pay the government accordingly)… This is a mess, and I’m fed up… Fortunately, this whole selling on eBay isn’t our only source of income, otherwise we would have gone under long ago…
Additionally, they have limited access on a number of our employee’s accounts (which is understandable too)… and odds are, the money in their accounts is going to be held as well. For now, our account is simply accepting payments just to be held by eBay for 6 months until our internet merchant account is finished being set up early next week (we have merchant accounts for in all our retail stores, but they don’t work on the internet it appears)… What a mess indeed.
