Second Business Account on HOLD; Where’s my money

We have used Paypal for years. We paid them almost $10,000 in transaction fees last year – so we’re not new to this game. Because of various issues with carts and workflows tied-in to the account I’ve been reluctant to change but I am DONE.

We just opened a second account for new goods/services and no matter how I beg I cannot get the money coming into the new account released from HOLD. Even telling them about our other accounts with them – they are unwilling to work with me.

We are selling fine art prints that cost hundreds to print – so we require customers to pay a percentage up front. Paypal says we have to ship before they release funds. I say, “Ship WHAT we can’t place a print order until we receive the funds!” I try to explain it’s a pre-paid amount on a fine artwork and our policy clearly states this is a non-refundable fee, as once the order is placed with our supplier we cannot get a refund. The customer has a signed order on file that they agree to this non-refundable fee and our payment policy.

Calling Paypal support is like trying to explain complex mathematics to a beagle… they just don’t have the capacity. All Paypal can say is – sorry – prove you shipped the print by entering a tracking number and we’ll release the funds.

So my choices here seem to include entering in false shipping info, asking my customer to lie to Paypal and say they got something so Paypal will release the funds so we can order the print, or make my customer wait.

I did not sign up to “loan” them the use of my funds for 21 days while they “protect” me. They get free use of my funds and yours to run their business? — this is a form of kiting I swear and they should pay us interest if they’re going to hold our $$.

I have moved to another system for the Fine Art goods, and as soon as I get the $ out (which they’ll probably CHARGE ME for) I will close this account. We’re also immediately investigating ways to move our other businesses AWAY FROM PAYPAL as of NOW.

Disgusted.
