Paypal Refused My Dispute
I bought an item from an online merchant (not through ebay) and used Paypal to make the purchase. The item was a cigar box guitar, described as having a 5-6 week build lead time before shipment of the item.
5 months after placing the order, I still had not received the item. The merchant was not responding to emails I was sending them, so I turned to PayPal to resolve the matter. Paypal advised me that because this transaction was not disputed within 45 days of the purchase date, I had no grounds for a dispute. They further added that they may “choose” to raise a dispute themselves anytime between now and 180 days after the initial transaction. Quite obviously, they have not chosen to do this.
Therefore, I will be contacting the Australian Financial Ombudsman, as this directly contravenes the financial licensing terms which allow them to trade in Australia.
