PayPal Refunds Fraudulent Ebay Buyer

I sold a MacBook Pro on Ebay, with complete details listed in the description explaining that both hardware and software were included in the auction and that it was in mint condition.

The auction expired on the 7th day with a winning bidder.  The purchaser paid within 2 days, and I shipped it the following day via UPS. The purchaser received his MacBook without any complaints – that is until 2 weeks later when he requested a discount.

I inquired of the problem and he stated that the latch was broken so he requested $99 in order to get it repaired. I refused the discount and requested that he send it back to me for a full refund. He said he would not be sending the MacBook back and that he needed it for a business meeting. I told him that this wasn’t acceptable and he needed to return the MacBook and all of the contents that I sold to him.

I didn’t hear from him until another 2 weeks later with more complaints: the two batteries weren’t holding a charge, the software was locked, warranty still in my name as well as the latch being broken on arrival.  He also requested that I submit a claim against UPS, saying that they damaged the computer during transport.  I refused to do this, however, because I knew that it wasn’t true.

I received a notice from PayPal, investigating his claims.  I stated my case in complete details, along with our email communication. It took over a month, and PayPal’s investigation determined that the buyer should receive a full refund.  I did my best to fight the decision without success.

The Buyer claimed to have returned the MacBook and all of the contents, even provided PayPal with a UPS tracking number.  The package he sent was so small there was no way it could have been what I sent to him – I was furious and contact PayPal.  But PayPal customer service said the case was closed and I would need to contact the buyer.

Never again PayPal.
