PayPal wants verification after ID theft against me
While trying to open an account, PayPal’s system said that my bank details were already registered. Thinking this must be some glitch I called PayPal’s UK “help” number. I spoke with an Angela (no last name given) who asked me lots of questions about email accounts I haven’t heard of, and then informed me that someone else had used my bank details for their PayPal account.
I immediately asked her to close the account, but she refused, stating that it was up to me to prove who I am before they would do anything. She then asked me to send copy of my passport via a fax machine.
I now have to change my bank account because of this. I have reported the situation to British Police, and certainly hope they contact Paypal about the matter. Maybe they will be a bit more helpful to Scotland Yard fraud squad than they are to a mere customer.
