PayPal holding my payment
I have had this happen with two PayPal transactions-
I pay for some eBay merchandise with Paypal directly (not through a Paypal account) and Paypal says that everything is okay and takes the money from my credit card.
Two days later I find out that Paypal told the seller that the money has been taken back “due to fraudulent activity”, but PayPal doesn’t notify me at all. Then Paypal keeps the money instead of returning it to me, until they are able to “verify my identity”.
I then contact Paypal and they ask me to verify my identity, which I do successfully. After putting me on hold for around 20 minutes I am told that the credit card company won’t authorize the transaction, and they refuse to refund the money to me.
So I contacted my credit card company, and here is what they said:
a. There is no problem with the transaction
b. Paypal NEVER contacted them
I then had to open a dispute with the credit card company so that I could get my money back from Paypal.
This seems like a new game that Paypal is playing. They did not even notify me, the buyer, that the transaction was being held. Perhaps they were hoping that I won’t notice? I wonder if this new game is legal….
