Paypal does not protect against digital services
I paid in advance for 1 year for a premium subscription to megaupload.com, a file sharing service. Shortly after, Megaupload had a problem on their site and are no longer able to offer all the services they had been, at least not for me. One of those services is crucial to me and, as a result, I had to go to another service.
I tried contacting Megaupload 5 times and never got a response. The only point of contact was through their website; no phone number, no email address. When I disputed it with Paypal, they stated in no uncertain terms that they offer no protection against the purchase of these services.
While they say they state this is in their terms of agreement (and I have no reason not to believe this), it should be stated obviously and not buried in fine print. The buyer should be aware that he is purchasing at his own risk and not being afforded the same protection as a credit or debit card.
Actually, it seems they do everything possible to dissuade anyone from purchasing directly with a card.
