Unexpected PayPal Charity Fees
I wanted to send $25.00 to a charity in Jamaica in response to the good work being done by the Missionaries of the Poor as shown on the Eternal Word Television Network. EWTN had an address in Atlanta, Georgia to send the check. Somehow PayPal became the intermediary for the transaction. I was promised that my check would be posted in the name of “MOP” which stands for “Missionaries of the Poor”.
Today, I spent about two hours looking for a $25.00 check on my bank statement. My bank permits me to see the front and back of a normal check. I could not find any check for the amount of $25.00, it simply was not there.
Finally, I did find a debit in my bank statement for about $31.50 with no data as to the payee. I realized that this was the debit that I was looking for. I had traced every $25.00 check in my bank statement over two hours. There was no indication of any check whatsoever payable to “MOP” as promised. So I had to pay $6.50 extra to send $25.00 to a quite worthy charity.
