PayPal Buyer Disputes And Gets Merchandise Free
On March 25th I sold an audio system on eBay with payment handled via PayPal. The amount was to the tune of $330 which was being held until the item was delivered. I brought the system to my local UPS store on March 26th at which time they packaged it properly and shipped it; item was delivered to buyer on March 29th and funds were released to me on April 5th.
On April 11th, nearly two weeks after the buyer received the system, she proceeded to file a dispute stating that “item damaged during shipment”. I asked for photographic proof which she refused to provide. I asked for her to return the item at which time I’d issue a refund, she refused.
PayPal took it upon themselves to issue this woman a refund of $330 without notifying me. I contacted them and was told that they “resolved the dispute the best way that we [they] saw fit”. PayPal claims to issue seller protection when the fact of the matter is that they DON’T.
This lady now has a brand new music system that she essentially received for free by simply filing a dispute with PayPal.
