PayPal Took Money From Bank Account Instead Of Buyer Credit

I made a purchase of a big screen TV from one of the large online retail electronics websites. I clicked on “pay via PayPal” and signed into my PayPal account. I unchecked the funding option “Bank account” and checked “buyer credit” instead. PayPal then sent me a message saying something to the effect of “credit pending”.  I already had a credit line of $1,100 and the purchase was $625. PayPal never notified me that they had a arrangement with the merchant to use Bank payments only.

So I called PayPal, and the representatives were totally robotic. And only when I called did they even notify me of this arrangement with the merchant, and that they had used my checking account funds rather than my buyer credit!  I told them I was there customer and that I should have had the final decision as to which method of payment I wanted to use, and decline the purchase if I wanted. PayPal could at least have notified me that I could not use the buyer credit, and then ask me whether or not they should go ahead with purchase. I would have canceled the sale!

I spoke to a supervisor and explained the whole disaster, and the supervisor was robotic and refused to do anything. Now I am short that money, which I needed to pay my bills.

Very poor policy! PayPal should be investigated.
