Paypal account verification

Paypal are remarkably stupid with their self imposed rules to verify an account. An individual purchasing from Ebay should be able to pay with credit card. What conceivable reason do they need my bank account details if not for data harvesting if I am not a trader. The reason they exist is to facilitate a payment and their arrogance in blocking the primary reason such companies existing is galling. I would rather there were viable alternatives as anyone like minded will vote with their feet and companies like Ebay will suffer the drop off in trade as a consequence. I would urge anyone in the same position to think twice before granting access to a third party to your bank account as they can transfer funds on a whim and the onus is on you to prove they are in the wrong. Any bank will give you the same advice, so steer clear and save yourself the headache.
