I thought Paypal was safe but had a rude awakening
I received two E-Mails from PayPal indicating that I had made two purchases using my PayPal account, one for $316.00 and the other for $529.00. I immediately contacted PayPal informing them that I had NOT made these purchases. Following an investigation PayPal did assure me that I had proven that I did not make the purchases and that I would not be liable for them. However, they will not close my PayPal account (at my request) until their “investigation” is complete. They did provide me with the name and address of the person who allegedly used my account.
I contacted the police department in the city where the “alleged” person lives and filed a police report. The police report is completed and they will send me a copy. I had always thought purchases made online through PayPal were safe and had used them for several years. However, this incident gave me a rude awakening and as soon as their investigation is complete I will close my PayPal account and will NEVER use them again.

I got my paypal account years ago because when the whole online shopping craze started I did not feel comfortable giving out my credit card information on line and most places accept paypal an a payment option. Then Paypal asked me to add a bank account or credit card to my paypal account which totally defeated the reason I git the paypal account. Reluctantly I agreed…after all they the safe way to pay and get paid…what a lie. # months later I had 3 separate charged to my credit card for items sold on eBay but not bought by me. Frantically I called both ebay and paypal to clear this us. Their “investigation took forever while my account was limited. I ended up doing a chargeback with my bank and change my credit card so no more fraud transactions could take place. Paypal was no help to me what so ever. I even thing it was an insider job, someone from paypal tool my card info.
I don’t see why they can not close your account. They can investigate while the account is closed, although I doubt they are even doing an investigation. They suck! If the charged were done on your credit card I would call the company and dispute the charges with them. You will have a better chance at getting your money back that way.
Wow, I didn’t know PayPal would provide you this kind of information.
I remember my brothers account being hacked but noone ever returned those 30 $ that were stolen in the end.
Now none of us uses PayPal anymore, which is rather bad for ebay and stuff. We use Paysafecard with games, which is something like a game card but you can use it with more services, not only games.
Hope the police will do something about the person who tried to steal your money.
I don’t understand why the account can’t be closed? With it still being open there id potential for more fraud to occur on the account. I worked for a merchant company a few years back and when dealing with fraud on the account we closed it immediately to stop the chances of more fraud. The way they operate makes me thing that maybe this is an inside job
I am also a victim of unauthorized withdrawal with paypal is investigating it. It is paytpal the weakest link because even though I stop using paypal my account was still hacked and lost 10k Phl peso contacted paypal and under investigation I might stop using my debit card and apply for another one
