Closed Account With No Explanation
I recently received a notification that my account (used perhaps 10-20 times per year for Ebay purchases), was “limited” due to some vague explanation about an “audit” finding “similar account information”.
I called Payal, and the first representative said she had no explanation listed on why the account was limited. Then a few days later, I received notification that the account was canceled. The second call, Paypal says that they have “confidential” information about why my account was closed, but will not tell me, that that would compromise their proprietary security procedures (this so-called “manager” was completely useless, condescending, brusque, and uninformative -simply reading Paypals’ “flowchart’) (Brian, employee number 43258)).
Paypal was totally uninformative, and would not state ANY reason why my account was closed, or what this secret and proprietary information is on my account, they stated that it was a “business relationship” THEY chose to terminate, based on confidential information they would not disclose. The only activity on this account is my paying for sporadic Ebay transactions via credit card.
My opinion is that there is something extremely negligent and/or nefarious going on here:
a) Ebay and Paypal are so out of control and riddled with fraudulent transactions that they really do not know why their algorithms cancel accounts, and if there is not any profit or slightest risk of lost money, they just close them.
b) Paypal is closing small accounts that use credit cards whereby they do not make any money.
c) Paypal (ala “big brother”) is collecting “other” erroneous information on people and using it in a negligent manner.
I would suggest that anyone who is having these kind of issues CONTACT YOUR STATE’S ATTORNEY GENERAL’s OFFICE. Although Paypal makes you “sign” an agreement that voids any rights you may have, they still cannot have a fraudulent contract whereby they have “confidential” information on users on which they base their unilateral decisions.
It’s time that Paypal be regulated just like the credit card companies and banks to prevent these abuses, so contact your ATTORNEY GENERAL’s office with Paypal and Ebay complaints.
