Cancelled PayPal Transaction Causes Overdraft

I bought an item from someone on Dec 5 2010 and paid them via Paypal. Right after I had sent the money, the seller emailed me and told me they had a typo in their email address. I immediately canceled the transcation (within minutes) and initiated a new payment to the correct address.

On Dec 6, my bank account showed both transcactions out of my account to Paypal, resulting in an NSF charge. Paypal shows my first transaction as cancelled but is still holding the funds – Why?? I don’t know, and no warning was given that this would happen when I cancelled the transaction . I get why they might need to do that, but how about a head’s up, guys? Poor customer communication …
