Buyer opened dispute 4 days after shipping item

Another ridiculous problem with Paypal that should never have happened. I sold an item on my website, not Ebay, on 1/25 and shipped on 1/26 by other letter post. On 1/30 Paypal allowed the purchaser to open an item not received dispute and immediately held the payment.

I called Paypal and of course got their absurd bot answering system which is used in hopes of people will get frustrated and not bother. I finally got through to a rep and by that time because of the INR and bot, was very frustrated and PO’d to say the least. The rep was not any help so I asked for a supervisor who I did get put through to.

First question I was asked “what is your tracking number?”. I proceeeded to tell him that I did not have one but the purpose of the call was to find out why they would allow a dispute to be opened so quickly. He told me normal practice is to let people know to wait 7 days before filing and then of couse said unless there are unusual circumstances. This situation had no unusual circumstances

He of course is from the US and has no regards for the differences in Postal systems. He of couse again stated the 7 days and made sure I knew it was calendar days, not business days which is ridiculous. I then said it was only 4 days with a weekend with no sevice as well. Again, same story. I aked him why the on line filing was not stopped and the computer programmed to tell people to wait the 7 days. He could not give me an answer. I then asked him to send an email to the buyer with a copy to myself that the buyer was impatient and being unreasonable in filing that quick. He siad he would do it and I have not received anything yet.

Bottom line is a Paypal dispute with the present system in place, can be opened immediately after the payment has been made and it will be accepted by Paypal with no regard to mail service or the seller. This is from a major company looking to expand into the brick and mortar business.

Their procedures are awful, their phone bot system is absurd and they actually give contradictory information on the phone. This is an absurd way for a major company to run a business.

It may not do any good but at least people will be made aware of some of the ridiculous practices Paypal uses. This is not meant to be a rant and if it sounds like one, my apologies. It is only designed to provide information.

I wish there was aan alternative to Paypal so they would have some competion any maybe get off their perceived We Can Do What We Want Policy.Another ridiculous problem with Paypal that should never have happened. I have been selling on ebay and using paypal for the last 12 years and the last year, it is becoming more and more common, esp. for over seas buyers to file a dispute of not receiving the item with in only a few days of paying for it. And paypal almost 99% of the time grants a full refund. So they get free music. I am now insuring every item going over seas for full value.
