Bought A Damaged Item, Can’t Submit PayPal Dispute
I recently bought a $1,300.00 canon camera lens using PayPal. It was described as having “cosmetic scratches”. The lens seemed to work just fine at first, but after I had saved enough to buy filters for this lens it turns out that the lens was ever so slightly dented in.
The defect is hardly noticable to the eye, but the filters did not fit the lens because of it. I contacted the seller as PayPal instructed me to do, but received no response. So I tried again, and still no response.
Now it seems i ran out of time and can no longer submit a PayPal dispute against the seller. I am so upset because I couldn’t have detected the damage without a filter, and i didn’t buy the filters untill later. Because of this, along with PayPal telling me to contact the seller before submitting the dispute, I ran out of time.
So did i get “screwed”?. I did later see that another potential buyer had asked whether the lens was dropped, and the seller’s answer was that they didn’t know. I am sure that the seller knew darn well the lens was damaged and they didn’t disclose it. There was nothing “cosmetic” about the damage to the lens at all.
