21 Day PayPal Hold Stifle’s Business

On May 3, 2010 I received an e-mail from PayPal telling me that from now on the payments I received from my e-bay auctions would be held for up to 21 days. I was to provide PayPal with tracking info and receive satisfactory feedback before they would begin to review the transaction and then release the funds within a day or two of that.

I guess more than anything, giving some kind of a heads up would have been the descent thing to do. If this is to become their policy so be it, but I was taken completely off guard! I’ve had to purchase delivery confirmation on all of my auctions that has ended this week, and it may not seem like a big deal to most but that’s another .70 to .80 less, per auction that I will receive. I am posting on my new auctions that delivery confirmation is required to purchase with each winning bidder.

I’m still at a loss as to why these restrictions have been put on me. On their website, I found an item that is entitled: “How to avoid future PayPal holds”. I eagerly read through it, trying to figure out what I could do to end the hold thing. Unfortunately, I pass every one of their “requirements”, for having an upstanding account, but yet I’m still in the hold payment status. If meeting their own posted requirements are not good enough, what is a person to do?

As I stated before, this came out of the blue and I was not prepared for it. I’m a single parent trying to make ends meet. Now the thought that I have to wait a possible 21 days for any future money is very scary. I have a 1/4 of a tank of gas for mother’s day this weekend and I’m using my last bit of money to pay for the shipping, delivery confirmation, etc up front and I’m going broke fast.

I do know that they will release shipping money from your account IF you print your shipping from them or e-bay, but I don’t have an ink cartridge right now, so I can’t print things. I can’t buy an ink cartridge because I can’t use what little money I have in PayPal to buy one. I’m chasing my tail!

I’ve e-mailed PayPal two times so far asking for answers and so far I’ve had no response. I don’t really expect to. The sad thing is, I really did enjoy doing e-bay, I was able to take care of my family and have a flexible schedule. Now, I just dread my job! I know I’ll be working at it with nothing to show for it, at least for awhile. Oh, well!
